How to take a screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy

Published

Menu names differ between software versions. If a path here does not match your phone, search your Settings app for the setting named in bold — it is the same setting under a different label.

Support can usually tell what is wrong from a screenshot faster than from a description, so here are the three ways to take one on a Galaxy phone or tablet.

Buttons

Press Side (power) and Volume Down at the same time, then release. The screen flashes and a toolbar appears at the bottom.

Palm swipe

Swipe the edge of your hand across the screen from one side to the other, keeping contact with the glass.

Enable it first if nothing happens: Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture.

A whole page, not just the screen

After taking a screenshot, tap the Scroll capture icon in the toolbar (two downward arrows) and keep tapping to extend the capture down the page. Useful for a long message or a full settings screen.

Where it goes

Gallery → Albums → Screenshots, and Google Photos if you have it syncing.
