Fix BlueMail push notifications on Google Pixel

Published

Menu names differ between software versions. If a path here does not match your phone, search your Settings app for the setting named in bold — it is the same setting under a different label.

Pixels run Android without a manufacturer power manager layered on top, so there is less to undo here than on most phones. Two settings account for nearly every case of late mail.

Allow unrestricted battery use

Settings → Apps → BlueMail → App battery usage → Unrestricted.

The default, Optimised, lets Android defer BlueMail’s background work when it decides the app is idle. Restricted stops background work altogether — if BlueMail is set to that, push will never arrive on time.

Turn off Adaptive Battery

Settings → Battery → Adaptive Battery.

Adaptive Battery sorts apps into standby buckets based on how often you open them. Mail is read from the notification shade more often than it is launched, which is what pushes it into a restricted bucket.

If mail still arrives late

  • Settings → Notifications → App notifications → BlueMail — confirm notifications are allowed and the mail channel is not silenced.
  • Settings → Apps → BlueMail → Mobile data and Wi-Fi → Unrestricted data usage if you use Data Saver.
  • Battery Saver throttles all background work when the battery is low. Late mail that only happens below 20% is usually this.
